It looks like we will all be continuing social distancing for a while yet and likely won’t be travelling anywhere in the foreseeable future. I suggest turning your patio into a little oasis!
Last year we worked on our upper patio and I love how it came together – you can see more photos here in my Patio Reveal.
The weather has been absolutely gorgeous. I’m in the planning stage for our pool area and I thought it would be fun to share how I plan to our space and lay out some ideas to help you pull together your own outdoor area.
I suggest investing in some outdoor furniture that will last. Aside from furniture, when it comes to decorating or creating a welcoming patio, it doesn’t have to be expensive to create that desirable atmosphere.
Here are my go-to items to complete your patio space and make it a staycation worthy spot.
Outdoor rug – Adding and outdoor rug is one of the easiest, ways to add colour or pattern to your outdoor space. The rug will help guide furniture arrangement. It also offers an extra element of cozy and inviting while pulling together your space. Here are a few of my favourite outdoor rugs: We have this Ivory Moroccan one from last year. I also love these ones: Diamond Trellis, Ivory Moroccan Diamonds, this Blue Medallion one is great to add some colour to your outdoor space.
Plants and then more plants – Plants in pots, large and small. On the ground. On the table. Hanging plants. Mini herb garden. Can you tell I love plants? No outdoor space is complete without greenery. Flowering garden plants in pots are fun additions too. I like to create groupings of plants together adding different types of plants and various heights. And can’t forget macrame holder for your hanging plants. Fave planters: Dipped Dyed planter, mid-century planters,
Weather resistant throw pillows – Another great way to add texture, colour or patterns into your outdoor space. Try to stick within the same colour palette but have fun mixing sizes and patterns. We live in Nova Scotia, so for those near the ocean, I recommend outdoor pillows that are water and mildew resistant. There are so many great ones here
Blanket – Have a nice blanket handy to wrap up in on a cool evening. I’ve had my eye on this tassel blanket and this herringbone throw is a steal!
String lights – decorative string lights add a lot of charm and warmth to an outdoor space. I love the round bulb style.
Stool or side table pedestal – This can double as a side table for guests or act as a plant stand. There are lots of cute ones like : concrete side table, white iron side table
Outdoor bar cart – to store all the goodies, plastic glassware, beverages, mix etc to keep your guests / family or self refreshed. This handwoven rattan bar cart is on my *maybe someday* want/need list.
Citronella Candles – These keep the bugs away – little tip – if you don’t love the container it comes in – just spray paint it so it goes with your decor.
Outdoor umbrella – Adding sun protection and instant style.
Add the final touches with accessories. Place a serving tray or lantern on a coffee table. Add wall baskets on any bare walls and use a cute wicker baskets to store extra pillows, blankets, sunscreen, bug repellent or outdoor games.
