This summer we gave our exterior a much needed makeover. When it comes to homes and designs it is ALL about personal preference and for me, the curb appeal just wasn’t there.
We purchased our home almost three years ago. We really wanted to be in this area, the suburbs of Halifax, Nova Scotia. When we first came to view the house, we knew there were some things about the house that I didn’t love, but we just accepted them. We made some sacrifices with some things and just lived with others. One day our goal is to build and at that time we we’d have the opportunity to select everything. But for now, a little makeover will have to do! And we are VERY happy with how it turned out!
House hunting can be hard. Between dream location, school zones, size, budget, renovations, fixer-upper etc. The list goes on. It is nearly impossible to find a home on the market that ticks ALL the boxes. So always look for a home that has potential and don’t be afraid to work on changing the things you don’t love. Remember that home takes time and it is not a race to the finish line. *Constantly reminding myself of this!*
The first time we viewed this house, I knew there was a lot of potential inside, however I didn’t love the exterior. The colours were not to my liking. The landscaping needed work. Overall the curb appeal was lacking. Over the 2.5 years of living here we made upgrades to the inside and really love this house. We just didn’t love the outside.
The paint colour of our vinyl siding + brick was something that I always wanted to change but we didn’t think there was a product out that would hold up over time. We didn’t think we had many options other than completely replacing our vinyl siding. We also didn’t think it was a good option to paint vinyl siding based on initial research. My husband Adam found Spray Net, a Canadian franchise that specializes in painting vinyl siding. It is quick and cost effective and significantly less cost than replacing ALL our perfectly good siding. One major sell factor for me is their 15-year, no-peel warranty. A company that is this confident in their work to offer a 15 year warranty really stands out in my opinion. Many other paint companies offer one or two years warranty so it simply doesn’t compare.
The day Spray-Net Atlantic arrived to start our home, I was so excited I kept saying I felt like a kid on Christmas morning. The process was really quick – it took two days to completely transform our exterior. To say that I’m happy is an understatement! Our home is around 12 years old and by painting the exterior it was a really simple way to make our home look more modern. I’m still pinching myself that THIS IS OUR HOME.
We still have more plans such as new exterior numbers, lighting, composite decking on our front porch and I have some other ideas;)
A big thank you to Spray-Net and Spray-Net Atlantic for partnering with me on our exterior makeover. After finding them and learning more about their services I approached them about working together on our exterior makeover. As always all opinions are my own.
Our house has come a LONG way! Hope you enjoy some of these before / after photos of our exterior makeover.
Any questions – leave them below.
