Some of my most frequently asked questions on Instagram are about the rugs in my home. Let’s face it. I love a good rug and have a lot of fun swapping out rugs to change the look and vibe in some of our spaces.
When I shop for rugs you can guarantee I’ve searched high and low to find the perfect rug. Often the selection is overwhelming so let me help you by linking my favourite rugs that we already own!
Throughout my home I love neutrals and warm earthy tones. I love creating a flow between each room so that each space connects, yet each space is defined within our open concept home. I love layering textures and different materials that add interest and dimension to a space. Layering rugs are no exception!
I’m also sharing some tips to help you determine the right size rug for your Living room. From my own experience, when we first moved into our home we just decorated with the items we already had and very quickly we experienced that our rug was too small for our living room. We had an 8×10 in our old home and that size actually worked out perfectly in our son’s bedroom. After we worked through a few things we began fine tuning each space. I wanted a large comfortable play area for our kids so we wanted a large area rug. Buying an area rug that is too small is actually very common – So here are a few tips that will help you select the right size for your living room:
A few tips:
- Consider the layout of your living room and your furniture placement.
- You will want all the front legs of the furniture to be on the rug. It is ok to have the back legs hang off.
- Measure and tape off the area to have a better visualization of how a rug size would fit! You will be able to outline the size to give an idea of how the size would fit in your space.
- Even if you have a gorgeous rug in mind, but it is not the right size for your space – LAYER it. For instance, vintage rugs are quite pricy but you can easily extend your rug area by adding a bottom layer. Jute rugs make for a great bottom layer!
