Our fire pit has been a little slice of heaven. It was a great project we did last summer and it has gotten so much use this past year. We have actually used it way more than I anticipated, throughout all of our seasons – definitely not just a summer thing! In fact we used the fit pit a lot while we skated on the lake over the winter months. It’s warm, and cozy, not to mention there’s usually some delicious snacks. It really is our little backyard oasis.
Since we aren’t going anywhere any time soon, we wanted to really make our fire pit area feel like we were at the cottage, or create the feeling that we are on vacation. Giving us an opportunity to connect as a family outdoors.
First I’ll give you a look at our outdoor fire pit then I’ll share a few things to consider when making your own fire pit area extra cozy – some of these tips could also be used in your patio, outdoor dining area, or backyard!
Here is a view from our fire pit, it’s quite relaxing. The view changes with the seasons and it will soon be very green once the leaves fill in later in the spring + summer months.
Over the weekend I created this epic s’more board to enjoy by our fire pit. I used a combination of classic graham crackers and various different cookies + chocolate and a little fruit for colour and a healthy option.
We can hardly wait to have family + friends over to enjoy this space with us.
A big thank you to Hauser Furniture for sponsoring this post today. All opinions are my own.
First let me introduce you to Hauser Furniture; they are a Canadian, family run business for over 70 years. Hauser offer’s furniture that will stand the test of time and also celebrates their founder’s philosophy – Live life to the fullest, outdoors! They understand the importance in finding those special moments to relax and have created and built products with high quality and integrity.
Since we used our fire pit so much we wanted to take it to the next level. We always wanted our fire pit to have big, sturdy Adirondack style chairs to sit around, and stay outdoors a while, especially in all of our four Canadian seasons. We added these black Madirondack Chairs from Hauser Furniture.
The Madirondack chairs are a modern take on a classic Canadian staple – it is perfect for cozying up lounging around the fire. These chairs are designed and made for 4-Season use and made from Envirowood, which is an all weather marine grade recycled HDPE Polymer. They are UV resistant and made here in North America.
We are really impressed with the chairs, so much so that we are going to look at getting a few more for our dock – an upcoming project for this summer! The chairs are available in a few colour options. I love the moody look of the classic black, especially when the cafe lights are glowing, creating this lovely ambiance.
We also added this matching side table. It is made out of the same material as the Madirondack Chairs. It makes for the perfect place to set out s’mores tray. We also got this lovely Ring Log Holder. This piece is rust resistant and looks incredible by a fire, indoors or out!
Having this area feels like we really extended our outdoor living area. It cozy and even more comfortable with our new furniture. Since everything is currently closed it really feels good to be making our outdoor area even better.
Here are a few things to consider when creating your own cozy fire pit area:
Take Advantage of a View – enjoy the scenery around you and frame the view with landscaping and furniture.
Landscaping + plants – can really help set the theme of your space. Select plants that will adapt well to where you live. We opted for natural landscaping with some shrubs and bark mulch to blend in with our environment and a few flowers for in our DIY planters for string lights. Landscaping should blend in with the environment, not compete with it.
Bring out the indoors – throw blanket and pillows to cozy up on the cooler evenings. You could have fun with patterns or adding some colours.
Lighting – String cafe lights or solar lights help light the space after dark as well as creating a lovely ambiance to the space making it feel magical.
Weather proof furniture – furniture that is comfortable that will last outdoors in the elements. Sun, heat, rain, snow, ice, and wind can be hard on furniture so investing in all weather materials like Hauser’s pieces will stand the test of time.
Hauser Furniture has generously offered readers $50 off a purchase of $500 or more when you use code AMY50.
As you can see, we are loving our fire pit.
