Within the next couple months we are switching up our living room decor – TWICE. PLUS decorating for the holidays. So I figured I’d share our current set up before Christmas throws up in here and also share a few easy ways to create a cozy living room.
Originally the plan was to get this gorgeous green sofa for my office since I wanted something larger and really comfortable. In an office space it is a perfect spot to do something fun or unexpected with a pop of colour. When we made our decision to go green I thought it would be fun to have the green sofa in our main living room for the Holidays. The delivery couldn’t have come at a better time to do something extra fun for the holidays.
I’ve rearrange things a couple times but it turns out the kids have spoken and like the couch facing the TV – yup that’s a TV above our mantle.
Who doesn’t love an extra cozy living room – especially over the long cold winter months – We live in Canada so I take my hibernation and cozy nights at home very seriously. I like to consider myself a specialist when it comes to binge watching Netflix shows and cuddling up on the couch.
So here are a few ways to make your living room extra cozy.
COMFORT IS KEY. When selecting your larger pieces of furniture go for functionality + comfort. There are so many great places to shop these days so you do NOT have to sacrifice style for comfort. The Timber Olio Green Sofa is a fabric sofa and is wide so it makes for a great place to lounge, snuggle or read a book. We also opted for this gorgeous Ceni Fresh White Armchair . I love the lines of it with the wooden base. I’m a sucker for details and those legs got me on both these new pieces. It’s so comfortable. I’ve declared the armchair as my morning coffee perch.
PILLOWS and BLANKETS. In my opinion I can never have too many pillows or throw blankets. My kids love to cozy up and snuggle under blankets even on the hottest summers day. The name of the game is COZY. We also use pillows for extra seating on the floor when we have little friends or cousins visiting. Throw pillows and blankets are so versatile and help make a space cohesive with your other decor, helping to tie in all the colors or even incorporating a fun pattern. When the blankets aren’t in use, they are a great styling piece to place over the arm or back of an armchair or sofa.
FIREPLACE and/or Candles. When it’s cold outside there is nothing like sitting by a cozy fire. It’s comforting, the warmth, the ambience – it’s relaxing. Even lighting a candle makes a space feel cozy. The flicker of a flame and a nice glass of red wine. Need I go on?
Textures. A plush rug that is soft on the feet. Soft blankets + pillows. I love different textures that provide some interest and it’s a great opportunity to have fun with color or swap out with the seasons. I love textures like my pom pillow and my fave green velvet pillow from Tonic Living. I’m pretty never leaving this space this winter. I’ve linked our jute rug here.
Here are some of my fave throw blankets: Tasseled Throw Blanket, Woven Throw Blanket, Sherpa Throw Blanket, Yucca Throw Blanket, Neutral Throw Blanket.
Here are a few of my fave pillows: Lumbar pillow, Tasseled Pillow, Karma Pillow, Tasseled Pillow, yucca pillow, Yucca Pillow.
When it comes to entertaining you’ll want to make sure that your coffee table or side tables are within an arms reach so you don’t have to physically get up off the couch or chair to reach your beverage or shared snack. We had never had a coffee table in our living room. I could never find one that seem to fit the room but now, I am not sure how we could go back to not having one. This Toba Natural Teak Coffee Table has been amazing! I love having the round shape, vs too many straight lines. The legs are SO sturdy I do not have to worry about my kids leaning on it or crawling on it – yup that’s happened… This coffee table can even go outdoors which it amazing!
Ok so full disclosure – I’m planning on shuffling a few things around after the holidays. Since the holidays were so near when our new couch arrived I wanted to enjoy it for the holidays but I will be moving things around – so stay tuned for another look up here in the New Year and also I’ll show how I styled these pieces in other places in my home.
I hope you enjoyed this read and a few tips how to make your living room cozy. I love how everything looks and glad I snapped some pics before Christmas throws up in here:)
