We’ve been working on our backyard fire pit area for the past few months and I’m so happy that the space is nearly complete. We’ve already spent a lot of time out here as a family. The weather has been perfection and enjoying these beautiful summer days in our outdoor living spaces has been really special especially since this is our first summer in our new home. Adam and I have come out to enjoy a glass of wine by the fire, and the next thing we know, the kiddos have joined us. It’s such a nice way to spend time together as a family.

I’m really happy to be working with Hauser again, we worked with them a few years ago on our old fire pit area. Hauser Furniture is a Canadian, family run business for over 70 +years. Hauser offer’s furniture that will stand the test of time and also celebrates their founder’s philosophy – Live life to the fullest, outdoors! They understand the importance in finding those special moments to relax and have created and built products with high quality and integrity. We’ve own several products from Hauser and we’ve been extremely happy with the quality.
At our last home, we had a fire pit area and we LOVED it so much. You can check out that older blog post here. The fire pit itself was wood burning which we really enjoyed but I will admit, our new fire bowl has been used more frequently since it takes no planning or time to light.. it is hooked up to natural gas (also available for propane) so it is very easy to use and shut off.
Our new fire bowl is from Hauser Furniture. It is the Serenade 32″ Concrete Fire Bowl. It is easy to light and no embers or smoke. The Serenade Concrete Fire Bowl is the perfect centrepiece. It has beautiful soft lines, the exterior is a lovely ash finish and you have the option to have either the Slate or Ivory coloured beach stones. We opted for the Ivory coloured beach stones – they remind me of beach stones from back home in Nova Scotia. We had our fire bowl connected to our natural gas line (we planned for this during the landscaping phase) so we never need to think about refilling a propane tank. One of my favourite features is that it is easy to use + light and you can adjust the flame height.
We are really happy with how our outdoor living area is coming together. Our lounge chairs are the same chairs we used at our last fire pit area. The black Madirondack Chairs from Hauser are perfect for cozying up around the fire. These chairs are designed and made for 4-Season use and made from Envirowood, which is an all weather marine grade recycled HDPE Polymer. They are UV resistant and made here in North America. They are also available in a few other colours. These chairs are a family favourite.
We added string lights to create a nice ambiance. These lights are lovely now that they are installed but we have a few hiccups getting them up. Between the glow of the fire and the string lights it creates a lovely atmosphere.
We have the Dex side table which pairs perfectly with the Madirondack Chairs. I couldn’t resist this little mini lamp – it’s intended for indoor / outdoor use so naturally it is been used inside and outside of our home. It is chargeable / no cords and will provide 9+ hours of light on a full charge. To make the space extra cozy we got a couple outdoor throw pillows – the Sunbrella Sardinia Char fabric is made from solution dyed UV-stable pigments making it highly fade resistant and resistant to mold and mildew.
In the fall we plan to plant more cedars along the fence to have a nice backdrop for our fire pit area – as well as additional privacy from our neighbours.
If you’re wanting to create a nice cozy fire pit area of your own, here are a few things to consider adding to your space:
- All weather + comfortable seating.
- Lighting to set the ambiance – dimmable string lights and lanterns with flameless candles that double as decor and / or a mini indoor/outdoor lamp.
- Fire Bowl – as the focal point + centre piece for your outdoor space.
- Pillows + throws – we also added a couple outdoor pillows to this area – also from Hauser.
This is our first summer here and I just know that we will enjoy this space for many years. We’ve enjoyed our morning coffee here as well as many evenings with our kids and friends. Normally I’m a summer girl through and through but I will admit that I’m looking forward to when the weather cools down so we can enjoy the warmth of fire and snuggle up under some blankets!
I hope that you enjoyed reading about our new fire pit area and that it inspires you to create your own outdoor space!
